Restore GPS Data from Google Takeout
Are your Google Takeout photos missing their location data? Google strips GPS coordinates from your images and stores them in separate JSON files. TakeoutFix merges this GPS data back into your photo EXIF headers, so your photos show up on the map again.
Why is GPS Data Missing from Google Takeout?
When you export your photos using Google Takeout, Google often removes sensitive metadata like GPS coordinates from the actual image files.
Instead of embedding the location in the photo's EXIF data, Google saves the latitude and longitude in an accompanying .json file.
When you import these photos into Apple Photos or Google Photos again, they won't appear on the Places map because the location data is missing from the image file itself.
How TakeoutFix Restores Your GPS Data
Select Your Export
Choose your extracted Google Takeout folder. TakeoutFix runs locally in your browser and scans for all photos and JSON files.
Match GPS Data
The tool pairs each photo with its corresponding JSON sidecar and extracts the exact latitude, longitude, and altitude data.
Location Restored
The GPS coordinates are written back into the photo's EXIF header. Now your photos will appear correctly on maps in any gallery app.
